Dear spca5xx packager,
We are near a new spca5xx release :) This one is a special one, code name
spca5xx-v4l1-Goodbye.
In July, v4l1 ioctl() will not be available.
This new release is the last one with support both Linux Kernel Series 2.4.x
and 2.6.x. I have rewrite large part of the code, that way, if someone need
to port a recent webcam on linux 2.4.x that should be easier, the core driver
is now independant from the webcam data/command.
As the spca5xx name trouble people, we have discuss to find a new one:
A new branch was born with code name GSPCA-V1. The GSPCA package should
provide:
a Linux Kernel driver for kernel upto 2.6.16, a smart application (v4l1/v4l2)
for webcaming :), and in the future a userspace driver.
GSPCA mean "Generic Softwares Package for Camera Adaptator" the name was
choice by a "Democratic consultation" on spca50x mailing list :) and to
preserve our "FREE" story :).
I hope that did not hurt the Debian, Gentoo ...packaging, otherwhise let me
know.
The new branch should be have available on july and start with version
01.00.00
spca5xx-v4l1-Goodbye version 00.60.00 should be available tomorrow, people
that way, should remenber the "Labor Day" :).
Cheers,
PS: I have tested this version on a lot of computers, and all webcams
familly :
x86, x86_64 from Intel and AMD, UP and SMP gcc 3.4, gcc 4.1.0 it works fine
for me on Debian and openSuse :).
