It was all a long time ago.  I never discovered the cause for the
wedges, but I found a workaround: adding a robots.txt file so that
Google and MSN wouldn't try to index the repository every night.

Since then I upgraded subversion to 1.2.0, and switched to the fsfs
backend.

I suppose this bug ought to be closed.
