any known problems with using 1.2.3a compiled in/for sarge?

Are there any know problems with compiling the sources for subversion
1.2.3a on a Sarge box and expecting the resulting package(s) to work?
I have checked the build dependencies and all versioned dependencies
are in fact met with Sarge. So far so good.
A straightforward compile (after installing -dev libs, kaffe, etc)
fails due to some problem with kaffe or the java code. I do have Sun's
Java 1.4.2-07 installed (packaged with java-package) and after a
slight change of the Subversion debian/rules file to use the library
path of the Sun package, the compile does complete successfully. All
checks pass.
But, are there any know limitations that I have missed?
So to conclude: It would be relly useful to have Subversion 1.2
backported and operating on a Sarge box. Is this as simple as it
sounds?
Hope I'm not on the wrong list,
