Oh. That is a possible, though very rare use case.
Compatibility is good, but not absolute: In 1.2, additional columns were
added to the output of at least one command (update, maybe?) to fit in
the extra status letters used for locking.

It might never happen again within 1.x, but since that factored into
your decision, I thought I should just mention it.
