There hasn't been much (if any) progress in the synfig packaging since
then. Basically, most activity is upstream, and there remains lots to do
before synfig and synfigstudio are usable for a wide audience. Paul Wise
is heavily involved upstream, and is also the primary packager. We'll
probably get an updated Debian package out very soon after each upstream
release.

For those interested, the current status can be followed at
http://www.synfig.com/ -- and upstream definitely needs more hands!
