This is strange. First:

Did you switch from tetex to texlive? Or did you upgrade from a prior
texlive package, or did you install from fresh?

In the first two cases you should *definitely* PURGE tetex/texlive for
now.

Can you send me the output of:
	ls -ld /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map
	ls -l /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/tetex/dvips35.map
	ls -lR /etc/texmf
and when did you do this, ie with which versions of the texlive
packages?
