Is there any advance?  If not, though I would be the worst
candidate, I guess I could sponsor texlive (with a hope that 
you will become DD soon ;-).

I just downloaded all texlive packages and tested to build
only texlive-bin and, yet I don't have so detailed knowledge
on packaging of texlive, I guess I could sponsor texlive
if necessary.

BTW, I might found a bit refinement of texlive-bin (not investigated
though).

Build-Depends could be:

debhelper (>= 5), libxml-dom-perl, libappconfig-perl, dpatch, sharutils, ed, bzip2, libncurses-dev, libxaw7-dev, libpng-dev, libz-dev, libgd2-xpm-dev | libgd2-noxpm-dev, flex, bison, libpoppler-dev

because:

libxml-dom-perl depends on libxml-regexp-perl libxml-perl so
(if I understand Build-Depends correctly) libxml-regexp-perl 
libxml-perl are unnecessary.
