sorry if only now I found what is missed:
svn://svn.debian.org/SVN/pkg-uml/ (SVN must be lower case! just to focus
your attention I used uppercase).

While the browsable repository is:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-uml/

so in my case
svn+ssh://stex-guest@svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-uml/...

I am moving all my efford on svn, you can have a look at:

u-m-l-2.6.12-1um
u-m-l-2.6.14-1um
uml-utilities-20060110
kernel-patch-uml-20051102

Effectively your idea makes sense.
I did upload the packages using

u-m-l-2.6.12-1um
u-m-l-2.6.14-1um

do you have an idea how to correct it, using only one root?

Cheers

PS: I found out that rootstrap had been updated with a patch that includes
the support of devfs, even if originally absent.
This introduced, I suppose, the problem in creation the root_fs using this
pkg. It was introduced to support the use of 2.6 serie kernel.
