Here we go,

Etch is just behind the corner.

Given the Etch timeline and the fact that I'll be unavailable since Oct
8 to 27 we need focus on the last changes before it's too late.

So let's start with a summary, feel free to add more (realistic) goals
and pick up some stuff, all package uploads will need to happen before
Oct. 5.

user-mode-linux 2.6.18
----------------------
There are 2 major showstoppers about amd64:
  1. we don't seem to have any handy amd64 system (qemu is slow as hell,
I already tried going this route, thinking of building the kernel
     there is just plain crazy)
  2. amd64 doesn't support NTPL yet, we could add -bb patches[1] for
that but I fear we won't have enough time to test it and
Blaisorblade himself says NTPL support is still experimental for
     amd64.
My opinion is that we will add amd64 support for Etch+1 as we can't
currently support a stable release for this package expecially because
  of (1). Sorry Ardo :)

About 2.6.18 for i368: I'd like to test is a little before the upload,
we need to be pretty careful not to upload a broken release at this
time. Stefano did you have a chance to make some extensive tests?
  uptime? network stress test?

rootstrap
---------
rootstrap is in pretty good shape, it still has some issues which need
fixing (and it could even work on amd64 if one has its' own rolled up
  UML kernel).
Except for #372942 and #275546 can be easily fixed.

linux-patch-skas
----------------
nothing else is currently needed right now (apparently). Yay!

uml-utilities
-------------
  1. we need LSB compliance for the init-script (a good start is #385906)
  2. it would be nice to provide the missing manpages, I wrote some of
them some time ago but a couple of utilities are still undocumented
  3. Ubuntu has a patch for the /var/run on tmpfs stuff[2]
(I already imported this patch locally, I need to commit it to SVN)
  4. #378166: I completely missed it... will need to look at the
proposed patches, and evaulate their inclusion

user-mode-linux-doc
-------------------
maybe rollup a quick update to the docs? any takers?

umlrun
------
I can't tell... never used, never tried... either shape it for Etch or
  ask for removal from testing.
