the many questions were expected as that config was still a 2.6.18 one
and in 2.6.20 many options have changed. I had lots of them here on i386
too.

could you try using the i386 config as a starting point? or eventually
just make sure that most of the modules/options enabled there are
enabled on amd64 as well.
