Hi Ryan,
Thank you for the information. It was new to me.
I can understand people wanting that utmp functionality, and I guess
spawning the extra process is the way to handle this.
However, on a system of which I am the only user, I am not really
interested in that functionality.
Is it not possible to configure the package so that the end user may choose
if he wants that functionality or not?
I am the kind of person that, when having several options available, I go
for the solution that:
i. gives me all the functionality I want/use
ii. allows me to opt out of the functionality I do not want, without adding
extra 'bloat'.
Until I find a better solution, I get rid of the extra process by running
the commands
chgrp root /usr/bin/urxvt
chmod g-s /usr/bin/urxvt
Which, of course, I will have to repeat every time after installing a new
version of the package.
