Control: tag -1 - patch
Control severity -1 wishlist

Thanks for the bug report. This is the intended/expected behaviour. However, if
you would like to submit a revised patch making this a configurable option, I'd
be happy to run it by upstream then. Please see the log below, reproduced with
permission:

17:48 < ryanakca> Any thoughts on https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=821366 ? I'm unable to reproduce it.
17:49 < schmorp> .
17:49 < ryanakca> (In particular, the patch it links to)
17:50 < schmorp> can't make sense of the description, but *likely* this refers to urxvt's behaviour before and after scorlling the first time
17:51 < schmorp> rewrapping is only done when there is scrollback data
17:51 < schmorp> so this likely is simply works as designed
17:51 < schmorp> but i don't understand exactly what the problem is, or what the patch is trying to do
17:52 < ryanakca> Oh, I managed to reproduce it when there's no scrollback data. Just a second, I'll get a screenshot.
17:54 < ryanakca> http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rkavanag/before.png http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rkavanag/after.png
17:55 < schmorp> you resized in between, i assume?
17:55 < ryanakca> The point is that if, when you have no scrollback data, you make the window narrower, and then wider again, everything that was behind the narrowed bit disappears after widening
17:55 < schmorp> if you try with xterm, do you get different behaviour? if yes, what?
17:55 < schmorp> right, thats corretc behaviour
17:56 < ryanakca> Exactly the same behaviour with xterm
17:56 < schmorp> then itsd not considered a bug
17:56 < schmorp> making this some kind of ternary option would be an improvement in terms of features, though
17:57 < schmorp> the patch would break apps that don't cope with rewrapping, which is why this behaviour exists and which is why it should be the default even if it were configurable
17:57 < schmorp> workaround is also trivial
17:59 < ryanakca> OK. Do you have any interest in writing the patch yourself, or shall I ask the submitter to submit a patch making it a configurable option?
18:00 < ryanakca> Mind if I paste the above rationale to the bug report?
18:00 < schmorp> feel free
18:00 < ryanakca> Thanks.

Best wishes,
Ryan
