[Pkg-varnish-devel] Bug#737528: varnish init script doesn't warn on already running instance, fails cryptically

Package: varnish
Version: 3.0.2-2+deb7u1
Severity: wishlist

When attempting to start varnish, using the init script, it 'fails' to
start, with no useful error message, if there is already a varnish
instance running;
/etc/init.d/varnish start
Starting HTTP accelerator: varnishd failed!

I suggest that if possible, the init script be patched to detect this,
and provide a useful error.
