Bug#363576: vim uses incorrect escape sequence
"device-control-string"?

Package: vim
Version: 1:6.4-007+1
Severity: normal
whenever I start "vim" in gnome-terminal, I get the error message
** (gnome-terminal:3680): WARNING **: No handler for control sequence
`device-control-string' defined.
a couple of times.
According to this old bug report
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=176991
this is not an error of gnome-terminal, but "You are using wrong escape
strings sequence. Please check your configuration."
If you disagree with that, feel free to reassign this bug to
gnome-terminal... I don't exactly know what is causing this warning, so
I can't decide whether it's vim or gnome-terminal... but I know it's
this combination giving me the error message.
