OK, it is how you described it, I did have the "hidden" option set. Now that I
removed it it works as it used to.
Sorry for troubling you. To my defence I can only say that the "hidden" option
must have sneaked in with an upgrade, and "Hide buffers when they are abandoned"
hint was a bit too cryptic for me to make the connection.
