Font problem with Vim GTK2 version on Debian Sarge

Dear all,
The Vim GTK2 version (vim-gtk) on my Sarge system only displays some
strangely wide fonts. Selecting any other font via the GUI doesn't improve
the situation. It definitely does not use the font which I have set in the
.vimrc
set guifont=-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso8859-1
If I compile Vim myself with the option --enable-gui=gtk, meaning use GTK1,
not GTK2, then everythings works fine. I have installed both libraries GTK1
and GTK2 on my system.
Do you have any idea what might go wrong?
Best regards,
Thorsten Kohl
