Bug#371137: Many features gone

I've used to vim, but with the update to version 7.0 many features are
gone or behave strangely. I have no indication of the linenumer/cursor
position on the bottom. If i'm in the insert mode, i can't remove text
with backspace. I have no auto-intendation with brackets anymore. C-Syle
comments aren't continued if i press enter. in summary: it's no fun. 

i've found the different vi/vim behavoiur explained in the
NEWS.Debian.gz but not my experiences, hence this report
