I guess I don't have much of a say here. I will nevertheless express my
frustration at seeing a behavior that I have relied on suddenly change in a
new version without any comment in the changelog. Up to now I could always
use CTRL-C instead of ESC, which is much more conveniently located.
Also, if the new behavior is the intended behavior, it is rather surprising
that doing
map <C-C> <nop>
map! <C-C> <nop>
unmap <C-C>
unmap! <C-C>
reverts to the old behavior. Please don't correct this as I am happy to be
able to revert to the old behavior. :)
