I'll look at it -- probably doing a redraw after external filehandlers 
is ok.  I used to have a lot more redraws; Bram M had a problem with 
seeing the results of external commands, so I removed them.  There's 
still a number of commented out redraw!s in netrw.vim's script.

BTW, I've fixed the problem with wide listings and preview; I'm now 
looking at the [Scratch] buffer issue.
