If you don't have to work on it at the same time, using a version
control system is a good way to collaborate.

There has been various discussions[0][1][2] about adding such
functionality to Vim. It is also on Vim's voting list[3] for features,
but is not very high so I doubt it will get implemented soon.
Regardless, this isn't something that will be implemented as a patch to
the Debian package. It would be a very large amount of work and is best
done with close coordination to upstream.
