I purged all virtualbox related packages including the module and
rebooted the machine. I installed 1.5.0-dfsg2-2, compiled and installed
the new module and got this:

michael at gandalf:~$ ll /dev/vboxdrv
crw-rw---- 1 root vboxusers 10, 62 2007-09-27 07:34 /dev/vboxdrv

I guess that solved it. Thanks.
