Hmm, then we have a different problem than I thought. Sorry. But I thought this
message was patched out of vbox-ose.

Anyway, could you please make sure that LOAD_VBOXDRV_MODULE is set to 1 in
/etc/default/virtualbox-ose and then /etc/init.d/virtualbox-ose stop;
/etc/init.d/virtualbox-ose start to see whether the module is loaded? I take it
you have build it, don't you?

I will go and hunt the error message in the source code. :-)
