Frank Mehnert sent the following warning to the vbox user list
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.virtualbox.general/5952):
   please don't use
     VBoxManage modifyhd VDI_FILE --compact
   with VirtualBox 2.2.2. There is a typo which usually leads to crashes
   of VBoxSVC but in the worst case it can lead to .vdi corruption.

This may be worth an extra upload before the next maintenance release 
comes out.
