[Pkg-virtualbox-devel] Virtualbox driver autodetection

Hi all,

I've been wondering a bit on the driver auto detection features of the
virtualbox-ose-guest-{utils,x11} packages. I've been running debian-live
images inside Virtualbox with some success. Using the stable version, the
video driver gets detected automatically, probably using some .ids file that
the changelog talks about. The mouse driver is not detected, but should be
added to the config file manually.

Using the unstable version, the display driver is no longer automatically
detected. X seems to fall back to the VESA driver. The mouse driver is now
properly autodetected, using HAL it seems. However, I do get a somewhat
strange "double cursor", which I didn't get using the stable version IIRC.
Perhaps this is related to not using the vbox video driver?

Anyway, I was wondering how much of this stuff should be autodetected. I
considered submitting a bug report, but I thought I'd first find out how
things are expected to work.

Gr.

Matthijs
