Seems the problem is related with:
1) combination of host/guest system's architecture,
2) host system kernel.
To make this clear, I have conducted a set of experiments.
The host machine is a eMachines e732g laptop with Debian Squeeze i386 installed.
In particular, kernel and virtualbox was taken from squeeze-backports.
Host system has 2Gb ram. Amount of ram, available for the guest
system, is 768Mb.
Experiments:
1st one:
- reboot host,
- start virtualbox,
- start virtual machine with bio-linux-6.0.30.iso as first boot device.
2nd one:
- reboot host,
- start virtualbox,
- start virtual machine with ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso as first
boot device.
3rd one:
- reboot host,
- start virtualbox,
- start virtual machine with ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso as first boot device.
In the 1st and 2nd cases host system ALWAYS went to reboot or hangs
and guest systems
are both amd64. In 3rd - everything seems to be OK (at least after 5
cycles) - guest system is i386.
Every image can be easily taken from the net, just in case.
