You might want to try virtualbox from jessie-proposed-updates or from testing, some fixes are landed there.

symptom: install seems to succeed (but seems slow). after completion it fails to boot.
seems thst GRUB is not found. I was installing base system only, or base system and ssh

a jessie image I created last year when running squeeze boots fine
and after upgrading continues to boot fine.
