It's silly?

I prefer not to apply unofficial patches to the Debian packages. However
for a while I've built unofficial winepulse packages for wine-unstable,
available from the Apt repository at http://people.debian.org/~ovek/wine/
These packages are not built by patching Wine, they compile the
winepulse driver separately (out-of-tree). Thus, winecfg is not patched
and so winepulse must be configured manually by the user (as described
in README.Debian). However, I feel that until the situation is resolved
upstream, this kind of compromise is probably something users will be
able to live with.
This was also discussed in bug #528264.
