Dear maintainers,
I have wine running now.Following the symlinks i found this file:
$ file /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/wine/bin/wine/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/wine/bin/wine: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.32, BuildID[sha1]=f4263ba72b440944cb320ad4a434e097ff615e7a, stripped
but executing it gave me: No such file or directory
I started synaptic and did a search for all 386 packages.I completely removed (purged) those and did that too for all wine related packages. Then installed wine again and it worked. So if you want to, you can ask me for more info or simply close this bug.
Thanks for providing a recent wine version in Debian !

Unrelated but maybe useful or noteworthy details:- Since wine gave a terminal output warning that libncurses5:i386 was missing i additionally installed that.- Gnome shell tried to open Win32 executables via icon/nautilus with Mono.Associating with wine was not possible until created a /usr/share/application/wine.desktop file manually first.- winetricks does not work and says: wineserver not found!I got it working by modifying that script where it internally says: # Find wineserver. Some distros (Debian) don't have it on the path, # on the mistaken understanding that user scripts never need it :-( # FIXME: get packagers to put wineserver on the path.
