Indeed.

But the according code in the source code is commented as follows:

  /* create replacement string: just a newline to preserve line numbers */

So this is not by accident, but OTOH the documented behaviour seems to
make much more sense. So I will now fix this to work as documented.

But as soon as this causes some regression (i.e. in Debian's webwml),
I'll revert that commit and instead change the documentation to
reflect the code.
