I completely agree with you, I do not like the *new way*. See Felix's
posts and my earlier post in the archives.

But I also understand the maintainers' point of view when they say
that the initscript conflicts with new tools such as network-manager
(even if network-manager is stuck out of etch for now because of its
inexistant integration with /etc/network/interfaces).

The maintainers have proposed to split the package by creating a new
one carrying the initscript and the roaming ability. This seems to be
a good solution.

This is to sum things up.
