While my mail was being moderated on your mailing list, I have been
debugging more. The problem actually seems to be related to udev. I did
not upgrade udev and wpasupplicant at the same time, but for some reason
the problem appeared only after wpasupplicant's upgrade. The udev
problem is actually not 100% reproducible, so I guess I was lucky when I
downgraded wpasupplicant and got it to work with the latest udev.

I don't know why wpasupplicant/network-manager got broken by this "udev
not renaming anymore" (since I don't have any interface-name specific
configuration) and I don't know why network-manager would show the
wireless interface as a "wired" one. But after tweaking the udev rule to
workaround the possible udev problem, everything works fine with
wpasupplicant 0.5.5.

That's why I contacted you without filing a bug first :)

Sorry for the noise. In case you're interested by the udev problem
causing wpasupplicant/network-manager to not work anymore, see
