This is obviously an upstream problem than but I send this to debian and
you anyway, as you most probably communicate the right stuff to upstream.

I had a look into the ticket and unsuccessfully tried something: I
de-installed madwifi-modules-2.6.21-2-686 built from madwifi-source
0.9.3-3, downloaded the snapshot tarball of r2619 plus
backout-preempt-scan.diff applied and ended up in trouble :-) The script
is attached. As you see the modprobe resulted in a kernel error (the
text of which is attached as well) and the laptop slowly degenerated; a
reboot froze.

In mw-r2619-crash.txt you will see "Tainted: P       VLI" but I am not
running a tainted kernel -- besides madwifi if it is loaded :-)
