I don't understand the relevance of this question.  From what you had
quoted, use of the madwifi *wpasupplicant* backend should be discontinued,
because it's not the "right" way to interface with the madwifi driver, and
using the wext backend is better supported for madwifi than "madwifi" itself
is - so isn't that the right thing to do, regardless of what the plans are
for the madwifi driver in the kernel?
