I never said it was a rare case. This simply does not meet the criteria of of
a grave bug:

"makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or
introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use
the package" <http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities>


So this bug makes connecting to a certain type of network, not even fail
immediately, but after some amount of time. This software currently fulfills
all of my use cases without annoyance. AFAIK, wpasupplicant currently does not
delete random data or open gaping holes in the system which may be exploited.

You may only use this software to connect to one network, which may make it
feel "mostly unusable" but you must consider all other use cases before
selecting the highest severity.
