Which wlan chipset are you using? 

It might also depend on the particular kernel module you're using, 
although I haven't tested suspending a system with an active hostapd
process so far (bad intersection of suspendable vs hostapd compatible
wlan cards over here).

Please also add a dmesg log from a system that has gone through one 
suspend/ wakeup cycle with a running hostapd as well, feel free to
mail that one privately, if it contains potentially sensitive 
information.
