You may simply follow these steps:

echo "deb-src http://debian.fastweb.it/debian/ ../project/experimental main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
(replace debian.fastweb.it with your favorite mirror)
apt-get update
apt-get source package-name
cd package-name
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc
