I'm encountering the same problem runnig sid after upgrade to 4.2.2.
This is what .xsession-error says:

most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

I am also running it from wdm, but xdm or kdm, produce the same error.
If there is anything I can do to help resolving the problem, let me know.
