Thanks guys for your patience.  This seems to be missing
build-dependencies as Cyril/Jani have pointed out.

Nah, even in our retro world of xfree86 there are xrandr and xrender
extensions :)

I've added the build-dependencies to SVN.

We may well yet do another xfree86 based update given xorg isn't in
testing/etch yet.
