This isn't a bug in xfterm4 as xfterm4 is merely a shell script.

Do you have TERMCMD set?  If not then it'll call x-terminal-emulator so
it is a bug in whatever ls -l /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator displays.

Please reassign it there or let us know the output of the above.
