[Pkg-xfce-devel] notification-daemon-xfce and notification-daemon

Hi there,

you're receiving this mail because you're maintaining a package wich can
use notification-daemon [1], a soft wich can display some nice
notification on your screen. It's a gnome software, wich requires gconf
and other gnome libs.

There is an alternative to notification-daemon, wich is
notification-daemon-xfce wich doesn't depends on gnome things (but does
depends on xfce libs):

 Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.20.0), libc6 (>= 2.7-1), libcairo2 (>=
1.4.0), libdbus-1-3 (>= 1.1.1), libdbus-glib-1-2 (>= 0.74),
libfontconfig1 (>= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5), libglib2.0-0 (>=
2.14.0), libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.12.0), libnotify1 (>= 0.4.4),
libnotify1-gtk2.10, libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.18.3), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4),
libsexy2 (>= 0.1.8), libx11-6, libxcursor1 (>> 1.1.2), libxext6,
libxfce4mcs-client3 (>= 4.4.2), libxfce4mcs-manager3 (>= 4.4.2),
libxfce4util4 (>= 4.4.2), libxfcegui4-4 (>= 4.4.2), libxfixes3 (>=
1:4.0.1), libxi6, libxinerama1, libxml2, libxrandr2 (>= 2:1.2.0),
libxrender1, zlib1g

The package is ready in our svn, but currently to be useful, I added the
following fields:

 Conflicts: notification-daemon
 Provides: notification-daemon

After a short talk with notification-daemon maintainer, it seems before
doing this I should be sure that notification-daemon-xfce works exactly
like notification-daemon with all the packages wich use it.

The other solution is for every maintainer to add a notification-daemon
| notification-daemon-xfce dependency in their control file, if the
package works correctly with notification-daemon-xfce. (i've currently
tested with rhythmbox, gajim, quodlibet, network-manager, listen and
gnome-power-manager, and it works fine, but maybe there are some cases
where it breaks).

If you could test my package [2] and report back success or failure, so
we can decide what to do, it'd be really nice.

Thanks your for your time,
