Not a fix but a tip.  You can use external tools which works with
the composite extension of xorg:
- transd http://spuriousinterrupt.org/projects/transd
- transset (a test tool from freedesktop)
  http://packages.debian.org/experimental/x11/transset

Maybe I'll add a slider to set the default transparency (Composite
only)...
