[Pkg-xfce-devel] [lenny] - xfce-desktop task

Hi,

currently (etch) the xfce-desktop tasks install (without Recommends:)
the following packages:

corsac at hidalgo: tasksel --task-package xfce-desktop
orage
xfmedia
xfce4-terminal
xfce4
xfce4-goodies
mousepad
xfce4-mixer
xsane
openoffice.org-gtk
gdm
xfprint4
foomatic-gui

All of them are good, except that we still depend on gnome stuff for
some package: gdm and foomatic-gui. We're not yet able to drop iceweasel
(which is in desktop task anyway) and midori isn't yet available in
Lenny (and is not yet usable because of webkit issues mainly).

I'm not sure we can drop foomatic-gui (I know about
system-config-printer which works fine but depends on gnome stuff too
anyway), but gdm could be replaced by slim. It needs maybe a bit more
tuning (editing slim.conf by hand) but it looks nice
(http://molly.corsac.net/~corsac/debian/desktop/slim-moreblue-orbit.png)
and has few dependencies.

I'm currently testing it to validate it, so if you could do the same and
tell your feelings, it'd be nice.

Drawbacks are:
- support of automatic gnome-keyring unlock isn't available
- I don't know about consolekit stuff
- manual editing of slim.conf vs. graphical setup for gdm
- maybe others which I don't know yet

Cheers,
