Actually it's still there, it just took 10-20 minutes before it started
sucking up the CPU, rather than as soon as the compositing was enabled.

And that's my crabbing done for the day.  Got it out of the way early, 
now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or
