First, this has nothing to do with notifyd. notifyd is the notification
daemon, which popups little notifications in the top right, which
disappear after some time. Systray (the “notification area”), is indeed
a spot in the panel where apps can put a “permanent” icon.

That reminds me of something but I thought this was fixed. However I
have no idea which panel version you have, please reply to this bug
using reportbug against xfce4-panel so we have the information.
