Yes, and some people even requested it.

Well, same thing happens in ls (and I guess other file managers). If
that really bother you you should talk to those editors developpers,
imho.

In the upstream bug Nick Schermer proposed to revert the change
(basically hiding in Thunar dotfiles plus some others). I don't think
they really want to add a configuration option for that, but you can
argue your way on that bug if it's important enough.
