Note that I didn't manage to reproduce it in Squeeze, and the setting is
different in Wheezy/Sid.

I guess you are able to reproduce it consistently?

It seems that it's not really the grouping but more the panel size. As
grouping setting will have some influence on the plugin size, it might
just be a workaround.

It'd help to see the value of itembar_expandreq, I guess it's 0 which
leads to the arithmetic exception, but to be certain...

I'm not sure I'll have time to investigate this more but will try to see
where itembar_expandreq comes from and why it is apparently 0 in your
case.
