Hi Yves-Alexis,
Thanks for you quick responce.
My old machine is running Squeeze with Gnome. I thought/hoped that the user
switcher only brought up the login screen, not that GDM did the actual
switchging.
So if I understand you correctly, lightdm (or some other display manager)
has to have the user switching functionallity to get rid of GDM?

The only thing really needed was to check xfswitch-plugin dependencies.
What you're looking for is gdm3, which is the only thing providing user
switching.
