it seems like i am hit by this bug as well:
 random X-server restarts when a new application gets launched

i did not have this problem on the same machine with wheezy/sid.
now that wheezy is released, i re-installed the system (upgrading bricked it,
but that's another story):
- netinstall wheezy (with EFI)
- upgrade to jessie
- added sid sources, and upgrade apropriately
-> jessie/sie system

gfx-card:
  ATI Wrestler [Radeon HD 6310]
using the proprietary fglrx driver (1:13.4-2)
