* What led up to the situation?
While normally using Mousepad, I noticed when opening Edit -> Preferences ->
Editor, the "Tab mode" setting always shows "Insert Tabs", even then changed to

I tried switching between "Insert Tabs" and "Insert Spaces" several times, and
confirmed the desired option was applied, but opening the Preferences -> Editor
window would always show "Insert Tabs" as the current setting.
For testing purposes, Mousepad was closed and reopened several times, as well
as rebooting the whole PC.

The option described works as desired, although the current setting shown is

I would expect the last applied setting to show up when reopening Preferences
-> Editor in the "Tab mode" field.
