It seems that I somehow managed to reproduce using the above command, but I
still manage to unlock the session.

I concur with Daniel, when pinentry-gtk2 is running, Alt-Tab /is/ forbidden.
But I use focus-follow mouse and this one is not completely prevented by
pinentry-gtk2, so if I move my mouse outside of the pinentry-gtk2 window the
fullscreen terminal behind is moved to the front *but the focus stays in the
pinentry-gtk2 window*. So if you type anything, it'll go to the pinentry-gtk2
window and not the terminal window (so you might think everything is stuck,
since no entry is registered and alt-tab is prevented). If you validate with
enter, or exit with escape, it'll work.

You can see it if you make your terminal window transparent, you'll see your
entry registed in pinentry-gtk2. At least that's the case here.
